For The Record |
Rubens Barrichello secured his runner-up position in the Drivers World Championship title with his victory which in turn sealed Ferrari's best championship season ever with a sweep of both the Drivers and Constructors titles. Teammate Michael Schumacher claimed his third successive pole position since the United States Grand Prix returned to Indianapolis. Ferrari also scored their eighth one-two finish this season and the fourth in succession. |
The closest finish recorded was at Monza in 1971 and the 0.010 second gap remains the closest ever, although it was recorded with stopwatches which were not capable of measuring such small gaps. |
Sauber replaced Felipe Massa with Arrows' Heinz-Harald Frentzen to avoid the Brazilian's ten-place penalty on the grid garnered at the Italian Grand Prix. |
Arrows missed their fifth Grand Prix this season and the fourth in succession due to ongoing financial woes. |
Jenson Button is the youngest driver in Formula 1 history to start his 50th Grand Prix. |
